TOURISM &
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
Tourism in the Blue Ridge mountains had beginnings before the War Between the States, but the 1880’s brought a surge of folks seeking the calm and beauty to be found here. With the arrival of the railroad and the spread of photography, this industry burgeoned.
Our display on tourism highlights the early photographers of the area as well as the work of Hugh Morton in the 1950’s and beyond.
Early hotels as well as attractions such as Linville Caverns and Land of Oz are also showcased.
